Israel’s upcoming elections will affect the political standing of Jewish extremist movements. How can understanding the past help us navigate some of the most urgent questions these movements pose? What responsibilities do writers bear when documenting painful personal and communal histories and contested narratives?

Join acclaimed authors Yossi Klein Halevi and Yardena Schwartz in conversation with Claire E. Sufrin, Hartman’s VP of Research and Publication, for a timely exploration of the history of Jewish extremism in Israel and the involvement of American-born leaders in its growth and development. Drawing on Halevi's Memoirs of a Jewish Extremist (1995) and Schwartz's Ghosts of a Holy War: The 1929 Massacre in Palestine That Ignited the Arab-Israeli Conflict, recently released in paperback, the conversation will trace the historical, religious, and political currents that shaped extremist movements and examine their implications for today. They will reflect on how their own reporting, research, and personal experiences have informed their understanding of extremism, identity, and peoplehood.
